Every October, the Villadossola division of the Club Alpino Italiano organises a spectacular guided tour along one of the Ossola Valley’s most important and fascinating historical roads: the Strada Antronesca.
Over the years, the event has drawn in increasing numbers of hiking enthusiasts and those curious to learn about the history of the road, who also enjoy the side events too. The Strada Antronesca used to link Villadossola to Antrona and the Saas Valley; the stone-paved mule track, which centuries ago merchants would trek along on their way to Switzerland with their loads of products, cut across small towns and rural villages that are still well-preserved to this day.
The Strada Antronesca is a very popular cultural hiking route, offering an authentic, easy and accessible trekking experience, even for less expert hikers.
