Speed, progress, innovation: these are the words that come to your mind thinking about the town of Domodossola in the early 20th Century: a centre in full development and placed in a strategic position, thanks to its proximity to the Simplon Pass. Those were the years of the golden age of the Ossola capital which today live again in the big exhibition Balla Boccioni Depero. Costruire lo spazio del futuro from 22nd June to 3rd November 2019 hosted at the Civic Museums of Palazzo San Francesco, situated in the beautiful Borgo della Cultura of Domodossola.
For the first time the works of the most important Futurist artists dialogue with the material documents that, between the end of 19th Century and the beginning of 20th Century, represented the dream of modernity and in which three principal elements combine: man, space and speed. On display more than 70 masterpieces of Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Fortunato Depero, Gerardo Dottori, Tullio Crali and many others together with the fascinating sculptures of women wearing bygone traditional costumes of Ossolan valleys, the first car registered in the province of Novara and the airplane of Peruvian aviator Geo Chávez, who accomplished the amazing feat of the first long distance flight of the Alps, flying over Simplon Pass in 1910.
