Snow takes centre stage in the Ossola mountains: whether your passion is cross-country or downhill skiing, snow shoeing, fat biking or mountaineering, this part of Piedmont is the perfect place to experience a full season of winter sports and entertainment.
The Ski Area, which is part of the larger Neveazzurra winter sports area, has something for everyone, with 190 km of slopes and trails: a wide array of choices for expert skiers, beginners and children, who will enjoy special slopes set up for kids. The ski resorts share a single ski pass available for sale online on the official website.
The lifts are the ideal means of transport for non-skiers as well: you can easily reach the peaks for a day of snow shoeing or for a delicious meal in the cosy Ossola mountain huts.
The winter atmosphere and Christmas spirit are enchanting, from Domodossola to the tiny hamlets scattered throughout the valleys, with unmissable events like the Christmas Markets (the most famous are the Santa Maria Maggiore Market in the Vigezzo Valley and the Domodossola Market) and the Presepi sull’acqua (Nativity scenes on the waters) of the Antigorio Valley.
But it is undoubtedly outdoor life that makes this season unique: for Nordic skiers, the cross-country trails span no fewer than 55 km of loops set in landscapes of incomparable beauty (the most popular are in the Formazza Valley and the Vigezzo Valley). The panoramic mountaineering routes with their ever-changing views are also excellent. The area also offers stunning trails at mid to high altitude for snow-shoers to explore the Ossola Valley in its winter cloak. And last but not least, electric fat bikes are an increasingly popular way to enjoy mountaintop trails amidst the snow-covered peaks.
We have breath-taking landscapes, excellent flavours and exciting outdoor activities in the pristine Ossola mountains: ready for an unforgettable winter?
