As part of the VCO Top Race circuit, the Sacro Monte Calvario Trail is a scenic trail running race that begins in the beautiful Piazza Mercato in the heart of Domodossola and leads to the ruins of the old Mattarella Castle and the slopes of the Sacro Monte Calvario, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The route crosses the Sacro Monte parkland and stretches along the mule tracks, paths and forests that lie between the little characteristic villages of the area. The main route is 17 kilometres long, but every year runners are given the choice of alternative, shorter routes too.
An absolute must for any true trail running enthusiast, the Calvario Trail was first organised in 2015 by Atletica Avis Ossolana in collaboration with the Domodossola Town Council and various associations, sponsors and volunteers.
