Strà Granda is a mountain trail race that crosses numerous old hamlets in Anzasca Valley, starting from Piedimulera and finishing in Macugnaga, the charming town beneath Monte Rosa. The route is along the old road, known as “Strà Granda”, which was once a mule track used by the Ossola merchants to reach neighbouring Switzerland, and by the Swiss merchants to get to Ossola Valley.
Strà Granda, included in the VCO Top Race circuit, offers athletes three different routes: the Strà Granda Monterosa Sky Marathon, a 45 km long individual race; the Strà Granda Race, a 32 km long individual race; and lastly the three-person Strà Granda Monterosa relay, a race for teams made up of three runners.
