Hiking – Premosello, San Bernardo and Capraga
Difficulty
Easy
Period
Spring / Autumn

The village of Premosello, connected by two mule tracks to its highest part, Colloro, is the first village you’ll come across along this route. The climb to Capraga allows you to see some of the most fascinating aspects of peasant and religious life in this area of the Lower Ossola. The route crosses some villages – protagonists of the film “La Terra Buona” (The Good Ground, 2018) – at the gates of the Val Grande National Park.

Description

For those who choose to reach Premosello by public transport, from the bus stop, enter the village by skirting the river to the monument to alpine pasture, then take the road to Colloro passing near the Church of Sant’Anna. At the first bend, go down a path that becomes a mule track and at al Rasciaval chapel turn left. Following signs for the Sentiero Natura (Nature Trail) of the Val Grande Park, climb to Colloro. Enter the village by passing in front of the ancient press and then, on reaching the church, climb the stairs and from the churchyard continue along a mule track to the Oratory of San Bernardo. On a comfortable path, go up to the Biogno huts and from here along a path, along which sometimes the original mule track emerges. Cross the paved road just before Capraga, which you’ll get to in about 5 minutes. From the fountain, take the trail that climbs up to Sasso Termine, following it for a short stretch, then turning right onto the path that leads to the village. A comfortable and scenic path leads to Alpe Ludo Termine. Returning to Sasso Termine, in the middle of the mountain a path descends to the Oratory of San Bernardo and then to Colloro along the road uphill. From the church of Colloro, take the road that leads to the café bar and then descend following signs for the Sentiero Natura (Nature Trail) along the mule track that leads back to Premosello.
