The Alpe Lut mountain pasture, at an altitude of 772 metres in the Municipality of Premosello Chiovenda, is certainly one of the most ancient mountain pastures in the Ossola Valley. As proof of its distant origins, an ancient parchment dating from 1014, discovered by the scholar and historian Enrico Rizzi, certifies donation by the Monastery of San Vittore al Corpo in Milan to the Monastery of Arona of the mountain pasture known as “de Alupta” in the Ossola Valley.
This mountain pasture, in a splendid panoramic position, can be reached by car, on foot or by mountain bike and, thanks to its marvellous exposure to the sun, is an authentic little corner of spring in Lower Ossola.
Veterans of the First Italian War of Independence decided to erect a small rural chapel dedicated to the Annunciation as a votive offering. The little chapel was enlarged in various stages, at the end of the subsequent conflicts: the central part of the small building, which had by then become a proper little church, was inaugurated in 1924.
