Don Lorenzo Dresco Sanctuary – Crego

The Sanctuary of Crego, a small hamlet in Premia in the Antigorio Valley, is a real architectural gem. Walking along the external peristyle, among the 48 square columns in hand-finished stone, is a truly emotional and evocative experience.
This small church is dedicated to Don Lorenzo Dresco, a priest stonemason (so-called due to his mastery in working stone) who built it between 1852 and 1878.
The external stone colonnade surrounding the structure is particularly beautiful: Don Lorenzo built it in a second phase to enhance the original structure of the church.
Inside, the altars are dedicated to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Virgin Mary.
It’s the overall view of the Sanctuary in Crego, however, that is truly fascinating. Its structure, the only one of its kind in Ossola Valley, is built on a natural terrace offering a breathtaking view over the entire Antigorio Valley.
