In the heart of mountains rich in minerals and stones, including some little known varieties, a mineral museum with an important collection could not help but come into being. In front of the main square in the town of Premia, in the Antigorio Valley lies the “Don Giovanni Bonomo” Mineral Museum, opened in 2002.
The museum houses the collection of minerals donated by Don Giovanni, later enriched with materials provided by collectors in the Ossolan valley.
The “Don Giovanni Bonomo” Mineral Museum collection includes over 3,000 specimens exclusively from Ossola Valley, mainly from the Antigorio and Formazza Valleys. Ossola has always been considered a site of particular mineralogical interest, having catalogued more than 250 mineral species never discovered before in any other Alpine territory.
