Villadossola Resistance Museum

The history of the Resistance in Ossola Valley is explained with historical documents and photos linked to the formations active in the area: the Museo Storico della Resistenza di Villadossola (Villadossola Resistance Museum) was set up by the former resistance fighters of the Associazione Nazionale Partigiani Italiani (National Association of Italian Resistance Fighters), who staged it and inaugurated it in 1983, to mark the 40th anniversary of the people’s revolt on 8 November 1943.
The exhibits begin with a display case containing documents related to the period and to the Fascist government as well as a collection of photographs of resistance fighters who died in this small area of Piedmont. The history of the local Resistance movement is illustrated in the main room, by hundreds of documents related to all the formations that were active: Garibaldini, Brigata Valtoce and Brigata Valdossola. A number of paintings showing the key stages in the struggle for freedom are displayed alongside the documents, for instructional purposes. A scale model of the crematorium at Dachau and documents regarding deportation allow visitors to gain further information on the important historical aspects that this little museum preserves and presents and that must not be forgotten.
