Multi-pitch routes in Alpe Devero

Alpe Devero: on the Rossa, Esmeralda, Crampiolo and Cornera walls, all kinds of climbing and difficulty levels have opened over the years routes, both bolt (spit) and trad. Exposed to the sun or in the shade, to the north or to the west, there really are some great places to go even on hotter days.
The most convenient sector to reach is the Bastionata della Rossa and Punta Esmeralda: here the routes are modest in length, at most 200 metres, and the rock is always in excellent condition.
On the Punta della Rossa, the symbolic peak of the area, you can’t help but climb the classic south-east corner, which is a real “must”. In recent years, however, some beautiful bolt routes have been created, all on excellent rock and with varying difficulty levels.
You can climb on Punta della Rossa from early summer to late autumn, paying close attention to storms, which are not uncommon in this part of Alpe Devero: the iron-rich rock and the mountain’s formation make it an ideal lightning conductor.

Crampiolo is home to traditional and more modern routes. The routes on the west wall are ideal for hot and humid summer days, whilst the southern crest is perfect for autumnal days. On nearby Pizzo Fizzi you’ll find the very long and easy Amico Barba Bianca and three new features on the north wall, where you can climb with bolts, but you’ll need to make sure you have nuts and friends with you.

The Cornera group is perhaps the most remote and wildest in the Devero area. Micotti-Signini is a very long, well-known trad route in Ossola Valley and is an excellent choice for those who want to have a bash at trad difficulties with no bolts. The climb is stunning and wild, as is the descent by foot, perfect for anyone who knows how to navigate and hike off the beaten track.

Near Alpe Devero, precisely on the walls that surround the beautiful Lake Agaro, in recent years a series of very well equipped routes of varying difficulty have been opened. The rock is a bit grainy and in summer it can be very hot, but autumn is ideal. If you like the kind of rock, the route is worth a visit, even just for the view… absolutely not to be missed!

For the more seasoned and prepared climbers, a beautiful route has been opened at the end of Lake Agaro, on perfect rock. It is called Nuda Roccia (the nude rock) and offers technical climbing on the slabs in the first sections and very physical climbing towards the top, where there are also some great cracks.
