Parish Church of SS. Giorgio e Antonio – Piedimulera

The first oratory built in Piedimulera was dedicated originally to worship of several saints, in particular of St. George, the patron saint chosen and appealed to by the rich Ferreri family, owners of the splendid tower named after them.
During the plague of 1585, the Ferreri family made a vow that led to the construction of the first church in Piedimulera, the present parish church, dedicated in fact to St. George.
Inside, the richly decorated nave of the church, with brightly coloured and gilded frescoes, has four large medallions on the ceiling: La Madonna del Rosario (Our Lady of the Rosary) painted by Enrico Mariola, San Giorgio martire (St. George, martyr) by Francesco Salietti di Cannobio, Sant’Antonio da Padova in gloria (St. Anthony of Padua in glory) by Enrico Mariola, the book of the Apostles, a flight of angels inviting worshippers to pray and the Latin expression “qui petit accipit qui quaerit” (For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth).
