The Parish Church of Finero

The Parish Church in Finero, dedicated to San Gottardo, is situated on a rocky hillside at the edge of the village along the road to Malesco, in the Vigezzo Valley.
The oldest part of the church dates back to the second half of the 1400s. Beginning in 1658, the building was repeatedly altered with the addition of the side altars, the reconstruction of the façade and the construction of an oratory on the side of the apse.
Next to the Parish Church of Finero stands the parish house, in dialect Ca’ dul Prev, the priest’s house, which is flanked by the 36-metre (118 ft) tall bell tower from 1759, whose pinnacle shape is a reminder of the tower in Villette, another small village in the Vigezzo Valley.
Inside, the church has a single nave and a presbytery flanked by a baroque balustrade. At the entrance, the wealth of iconographies in this place immediately becomes apparent. Some valuable paintings from the late 19th century particularly stand out, completed by Vigezzo painters Antonio Maria Borgnis Junior and Bernardino Peretti from Buttogno.
