Walser Häpfla Fest

The Walser Häpfla Fest was first held in the Formazza Valley in 2017 to celebrate the valley’s very own variety of potato, a one-of-a-kind, niche product, which is cultivated, not without some difficulty, on the high mountainous slopes of the valley. The festival takes place over an entire weekend in September and encourages exchange and discussion, through conferences and meetings designed to impart knowledge of the valley’s farming and culinary traditions. Gala dinners are also held, with exclusive menus that showcase the Formazza potato in all its glory. There is also an array of other local specialities to try during the Walser Häpfla Fest, just one of the many events on the busy SagreOssola calendar, including gnocchi with Walser potatoes, a must-try delicacy made by hand by women from the Val Formazza. The festival also features numerous demonstrations, presentations and a little market selling local food and wine products.
