The Chimney Sweep Museum in Santa Maria Maggiore is definitely one of the most unique and visited museums in the entire Ossola Valley.
Opened in August 1983, it was expanded and completely renovated in 2005 with the creation of a truly engaging and exciting multimedia installation.
The Chimney Sweep Museum’s collection aims to promote and spread knowledge of the often dramatic events of chimney sweeps, many of whom emigrated from their homeland, leaving behind their loved ones.
Inside the Chimney Sweep Museum, objects, work tools, clothes and images of the time reconstruct the touching story of the chimney sweeps, adults but also many children. Gifts from chimney sweeps from every corner of the world are also on display, which are brought to Santa Maria Maggiore during the International Chimney Sweep Meeting. The event, which takes place every year on the first weekend of September, is one of the most popular traditional events in Piedmont.
The stories of the little rüsca pluck at the heart strings of the more than 10,000 people who choose to visit the Chimney Sweep Museum every year.
This multi-sensory, highly emotional journey allows you to relive the poignant experiences of the small chimney sweeps, fascinating children and adults alike and causing them to pause for reflection. A visit to the Chimney Sweep Museum in Santa Maria Maggiore is therefore a truly unmissable experience.
