Moncucco

Reaching an altitude of almost 2000 metres, Moncucco is the pride of Domodossola and its residents: the locals are very fond of this mountain and climb it throughout the year. From its summit, you can admire a truly unique panorama, which you can embrace with a single glimpse of the horizon: the Simplon Pass area, Monte Rosa, Domodossola plain, Toce valley and Vigezzo Valley.
Moncucco can be easily reached via rather busy paths, especially in the summer, by following two routes: the first starts from Villadossola and entails an elevation difference of 1600 metres, while the second begins in Domodossola, via the Alpe Lusentino, and consists of wide paths that pass through woods and pastures. Here, old farm buildings, stables and barns have now been transformed into summer residences. People who are less trained can take advantage of the Domobianca Ski company’s ski lifts, which, during opening hours, allow you to take a chairlift from Alpe Lusentino to Alpe Casalavera (1,598 metres): from here, you can reach the summit of Moncucco with a walk that involves around 300 metres of elevation difference.
In winter, over 20 kilometres of snow-covered slopes make Moncucco a paradise for ski and snowboard enthusiasts: the green pastures and plateaus are transformed into Domobianca Ski, a modern ski resort just a few kilometres from the centre of Domodossola.
